Using the UserJourneyMapper Tool

Lesson 7 of 9

Using the UserJourneyMapper Tool

A step-by-step walk-through of the interactive tool with a mini-demo and export options.

Using the UserJourneyMapper Tool

The interactive tool on this site is a guided canvas that helps you build a research-backed, HCD-aligned journey map.

  • Guided steps: define your user, build the map, review & export
  • Exports: JSON for persistence, PNG for slides or deliverables

Interactive Tool: User Journey Mapper

Guided steps, JSON/PNG export, and helpful prompts to keep your map HCD-aligned.

How the tool supports the workflow

  • Prompts: It suggests fields that should be filled and why they matter
  • Evidence-first: It prioritizes adding quotes and data where possible
  • Opportunities: The tool asks you to convert pain points into HMW statements

Quick guided demo

  1. Select or create a persona (e.g., Busy Parent)
  2. Add 4 phases to the map: Discover, Consider, Purchase, Use
  3. For each phase, add actions, touchpoints, a key emotion and one quote
  4. Convert 2 pain points into HMW statements
  5. Preview and export the map

Export usage

  • JSON: Importability lets you store a checkpoint and continue later
  • PNG: Use for slides or the appendix of a design doc

Tip: Use the example dataset if you want to learn without writing data from scratch.
